Last Friday, I was sitting at my desk and watched the same 40 seconds of my own video come back two completely different ways. Same clip, same audio, same me.
One tool handed me a polished template edit with captions that are my favorite. The other one took a sentence that I typed and rebuilt the whole thing.
And I was looking at both of them, asking which one is better?
Wrong question, but I asked it anyway because that's the question we all ask.
It really comes down to what season of video creation I'm in. You see, every time I tell creators to talk to AI like it's a person, I get the same energy back. That blank prompt box makes people freeze. They don't know how to describe what they want.
And every time I show somebody a template tool, they come back telling me that they feel caged and boxed in.
And this made me realize that you're not choosing an AI editor. You're choosing whether you want to pick or whether you want to describe.
One likes to pick a template, and the other one likes to describe exactly what they want. Picking isn't the beginner lane, and describing isn't the advanced lane. These are two different brains, and I know a whole lot of creators who've quietly wasted a year and a couple of subscriptions trying to force themselves into the wrong one because someone online told them this tool was the future. (Shout out to good marketing.)
So before you buy another tool when it comes to editing your videos with AI, take this test:
The Lane Test
๐น Step 1: The blank box test. Open any AI tool and look at the empty prompt box for ten seconds. If your chest tightens and you start looking for a menuโฆ youโre a template person. If you start typing before you finish thinkingโฆ youโre a talk-it-out person. First reaction only. Donโt talk yourself into the answer you think is cooler.
๐น Step 2: Say your lane out loud. โIโm a picker.โ Or โIโm a describer.โ Sounds corny, I know. Do it anyway. Naming it is what stops you from buying against yourself at 11 PM next Tuesday.
๐น Step 3: Buy for the lane, not the hype. Pickers, you want the tool with real style presets and the ability to swap one asset without touching a timeline. Describers, you want the tool that takes a sentence and asks you follow-up questions. If a tool canโt do the thing your lane needs, it doesnโt matter how good the demo looked.
๐น Step 4: Run one real video through your lane this week. Not a test clip. Something you were actually going to post. One video, one lane, all the way to the export.
๐น Step 5: Re-test in 90 days. Lanes move. I was a hard template person for a season, and Iโm not anymore. But I switched because the work changed, not because a thumbnail told me I was behind.

ChatGPT just moved into your browser tabs.
On July 30, OpenAI started rolling out an official ChatGPT Chrome extension. Not one of the knockoffs that have been sitting in the Chrome store for years. The real one.
It opens a Side Chat next to whatever page you're on. Ask it about a YouTube video while it is playing. Tell it to reference your other open tabs. Highlight any text on a page, right-click, hit "Ask ChatGPT," and the sidebar opens on its own.
Now, can I be honest? I would wait before downloading this because we saw they dropped a whole browser before called ChatGPT Atlas. Where is it now?
One thing OpenAI does very well is ChatGPT when it comes to mobile and desktop. When they try to expand on certain things, I have to watch it for a while, so I'm saying, "Don't try it." I'm just worried about the resources they will put on this after the hype is gone.
Now, there are a lot of fake ChatGPT extensions in the store, so make sure when you're downloading this ChatGPT Chrome extension, it says OpenAI.
One more thing: Atlas, their browser, shuts down August 9. If you were using it, export your bookmarks now.
