Now that 2026 is here, we have to have a conversation about how social media is going to run this year. And the first one to be honest about a shift that is about to happen is, of course, Instagram.
I do believe Adam Mosseri is the only head of any social media that is as frequent with giving the people information. So I got to respect him for that. With that being said, I'm not surprised about this current shift that we are about to see on the platform.
AI can now fake authenticity so well that the "perfect" content we've been chasing for years has become the tell that something is AI-generated. Perfection is now suspicious.
Everything that made creators matter: the ability to be real, to connect, to have a voice that couldn't be faked ...is now accessible to anyone with the right tools. ~ Adam Mosseri
Instagram isn't just acknowledging AI exists... they're admitting that AI has gotten so good that the only way to prove you're human is to be imperfect. Your mistakes, your raw moments, your unfiltered reality, that's your new competitive advantage.
He is pretty much saying this:
I know we've been a platform about perfect pictures and perfect videos and production, but with AI being the way that it is, the thing that's going to make you stand out is imperfection.
And I can't help but think that this is just a strategy to stay relevant against TikTok now that the band is no longer an issue. There's been data showing that social media use has been going down, and one of the biggest factors is people are drained of trying to figure out what works from a production and quality standpoint, battling with the algorithm.
Let me know if you've been feeling the same way.
The last part of this 20-slide carousel shows that the energy is going to shift this year.
Let's talk about solutions because what Mosseri is really good at is also telling you what can work on the platform. So he came out with a post that is going to help you with standing out on reels.
Let's break down the new framework for 2026, which is the R.A.W Method.
R - Raw Content Over Perfect Production
The Shift: Stop using filters, stop over-editing, stop waiting for perfect lighting.
Action Steps:
- Grab your phone and record in natural light
- Allow mistakes to stay in the video (stumbles, "ums," retakes)
- Show behind-the-scenes mess, not just polished results
- Use the front camera more than the back camera
Why It Works: As Mosseri said, "In a world where everything can be perfected, imperfection becomes a signal" of authenticity.
A - Authenticity Through Vulnerability
The Shift: Share the struggle, not just the success.
Action Steps:
- Post content where you're figuring things out in real-time
- Show failed attempts before the win
- Talk about what's NOT working in your business/life
- Use captions that sound like you're texting a friend, not writing a press release
Why It Works: AI can fake perfection, but it can't fake the messy, uncomfortable truth of being human.
W - Win with Instagram's New Tools
The Shift: Use the exact tools Instagram is promoting.
Action Steps:
1. Edits App - Inspiration Tab
- Download the Edits app
- Check the Inspiration tab daily for trending content ideas
- See what's resonating with people right now
- Adapt trends to your niche with your imperfect spin
2. Trial Reels
- Post a reel as a "trial" (non-followers only)
- Test your most experimental, raw content here first
- If engagement rate is high, upgrade it to your followers
- If it flops, nobody you know saw it
3. Insights Focus
- Stop obsessing over view count
- Focus on engagement rate: sends + comments + saves Γ· views
- Track which "imperfect" content gets the most human interaction
- Double down on what creates real connection
Advanced Strategy: The Imperfection Framework
Week 1: Audit Your Current Content
- Look at your last 10 posts
- How many look "too perfect"?
- Which ones feel most authentic?
- Note which got the most saves/sends (not just likes)
Week 2: Test Raw Content
- Post 3 trial reels with zero editing
- One talking directly to camera about a struggle
- One showing a messy behind-the-scenes moment
- One where you mess up and keep it in
Week 3: Analyze Engagement Rates
- Use Edits app insights
- Compare engagement rates of perfect vs. imperfect content
- Identify which "flaws" your audience connects with most
Week 4: Scale What Works
- Upgrade your best trial reels to your full audience
- Create a content calendar based on your highest engagement rate topics
- Commit to posting imperfectly 3-4x per week
Instagram knows they're losing to TikTok because they've been the "perfect photo" platform for too long.
AI has made perfection cheap and suspicious. The only thing AI can't replicate (yet) is your messy, imperfect, beautifully human reality.
While everyone else is still trying to make their content look like a magazine cover, you could be winning with content that looks like a FaceTime call with your best friend.
Are you going to implement your true self this year?
π AI Alley
ChatGPT's really trying to be an all-in-one platform for you. So, not only is it an amazing chatbot, images even has some automations into it, it's now going to incorporate health.
Now it's not out yet. There is a waiting list if you want to join, which you can do by just clicking here . But let me give you a quick overview:
- A dedicated health experience inside ChatGPT designed to make health and wellness conversations more personalized and context-aware
- You can securely connect your personal health data such as Medical records (electronic health records) & Wellness apps (e.g., Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, Weight Watchers)
- This lets ChatGPT give responses grounded in your own health context (e.g., lab results, activity data).
Common uses that we're probably going to see this:
- Understanding test results
- Preparing for doctor appointments
- Exploring diet, exercise, insurance, and wellness plans
- Better contextualized responses based on your connected data
Now personally, this can get a little bit tricky because there still is a trust factor when it comes to any of these AI models. I know I've taken the supplements that I use and put it into ChatGPT to tell me a good regimen of what times I should be taking them, or when I get blood work done, a little bit more of an understanding after I get a breakdown. But to give them maybe my full medical records and all of that, I'm still not really sure about it.
But would you be open to having conversations about health with ChatGPT? Or do you already do that?
So you already know you have to email me back about your biggest takeaway from this week's Content Corner take a screenshot and tag me in your stories (or Threads/Substack) so I know you liked this week's content. If not, I'll see you next Friday. Same time, same corner.
