CapCut just dropped some new terms of service that basically says they can use YOUR content without permission to monetize and distribute it. So I had to find safe alternatives, and I'm about to break down exactly what I found so you don't have to waste time figuring this out.
Let me keep it 100 though: I was the type of person who trusted apps without reading the terms of service. Just downloading, editing, posting, living my best creative life. But this past week when CapCut dropped these new terms, I actually took the time to read them and...
Here's what CapCut can now do with your content:
- Use and modify your videos however they want
- Monetize your content (make money off YOUR work)
- Distribute it anywhere they choose
- This applies even to your PRIVATE drafts
- Even if you DELETE the content, they still have rights to it
Naw I'm noy feeling that. So here's exactly how I tested these alternatives. I had three non-negotiables:
My CapCut Replacement Checklist:
- Can it do basic video editing? (cuts, trims, transitions)
- Does it have effects that actually look good?
- Can it help me stand out without needing advanced skills?
I tested two main alternatives: Edits (by Meta) and InShot. Let me break down what I found.
The obstacles I ran into:
- InShot looked outdated at first glance (but don't sleep on it)
- Edits is brand new, so it's missing some features
- My muscle memory was all CapCut ...had to retrain my brain
- Some features I took for granted weren't there
But here is the thing... I realized these apps don't just replace CapCut, they actually do things CapCut can't do. I'm talking about features that had me like "Wait, CapCut doesn't have this?!
These aren't just "alternatives" - they're upgrades in some areas.

Meta Edits
- Completely watermark-free exports (even for free users...CapCut adds watermarks to templates)
- Live analytics data on reach and engagement directly in the app (CapCut has ZERO analytics)
- Project management and idea notes built-in for planning content (CapCut doesn't have this)
- Cloud storage for projects - work across devices seamlessly (CapCut doesn't offer this)
- Apply all feature - apply filters/effects to ALL clips at once (CapCut makes you do it one by one)
- AI-powered animation from static images (CapCut can't do this)
- Timeline frame rate selector and alignment guides for precise editing

I thought I was just finding CapCut replacements, but I found apps that actually do things better. Don't let one app with sketchy terms hold your creativity hostage when there are tools out there that respect your content AND give you features CapCut doesn't even have.

π AI Alley
One of my favorite AI tool, ElevenLabs, now has a mobile app. ElevenLabs is best known for being the software that allows you to clone your voice so you don't have to worry about recording for content.
It even adds emotion to your voice now. No lame monotone AI voice anymore. So what you see in the screenshot is what I wrote and adding emotions to it. Now click the video and let me know what you think about it? Does it sound like me? I think its crazy impressive.
