Now you know I have to talk about the new kid on the block. Instagram just dropped their new video editing app called "Edits" and I've been testing it for the past 48 hours!

First off, let's address the elephant in the room - yes, this is Meta's answer to CapCut. And yes, the timing right after TikTok's ban scare is absolutely NOT a coincidence.

But here's the thing - after playing with it, I'm actually impressed.

Now is it better than CapCut... we will have to wait and see but let's break down the app:

The Core Features That Actually Work

Project management for multiple videos
Green screen and cutout features
Captions and text overlay
Export in 4k with no watermark
Sound FX and Voice FX
Inspiration tab

But it's still missing:

Keyframes for precise editing
Expanded AI features
Advanced collaboration tools

However ... IT'S FREE. No subscription base or in app purchases.... at least for now.

Creative Ways To Use Edits That Nobody's Talking About

Here's where I think Edits really shines:

The Ideas Tab This is GENIUS. You can jot down video ideas, save inspiration, and add notes to reels you've saved - all in one place. No more switching between notes apps and Instagram!
Inspiration Feed It shows you trending audio and popular reels formats, making it super easy to jump on trends without endless scrolling.
Project Management You can manage multiple video projects at once, which is perfect for batch creating content.
Analytics Integration It pulls in your Instagram insights directly, so you can see what's working while you're creating new content.

But here's my HONEST take - Edits isn't perfect yet.
