It's not about the length of your content, it's about creating different parts people can fall in love with. Some are making 5 min to hour-long videos that people watch once and forget, instead of creating content with multiple moments that keep people coming back.
Including myself until I saw a video breaking down a R&B's singer, Kehlani, and her song "Folded."
"Kehlani's song is so masterful because there are different parts of the song that people can fall in love with. It's not just one song - there's the hook, the verse, the bridge. Different parts attract different audiences."
I'm like, "Hold up, that sounds familiar..."
I started thinking about my most successful long-form content. People weren't just watching the whole thing. They were clipping the AI tool breakdown, sharing the business strategy part, and reposting the motivational moments.
Different people were falling in love with different segments of the same piece of content.
When we're looking at content, we got to look at it the same way as music. What are the different parts that people could fall in love with? Are we being considerate of that to make our content have longevity?
Here's the S.O.N.G. Method you need to steal for long-form content:
S - Segments Over Single Ideasโ
Instead of one long topic, create 4-5 distinct segments within your content. Each segment should be able to stand alone as valuable content.
O - Offer Multiple Entry Pointsโ
Design your content so people can jump in at different moments and still get value. Not everyone needs to watch from the beginning.
N - Nurture Different Audiencesโ
Include segments that appeal to different viewer types:
- Educational moments (for learners)
- Entertaining segments (for casual viewers)
- Motivational parts (for people needing inspiration)
- Debate-worthy opinions (for engagement)
G - Generate Clippable Momentsโ
Intentionally create moments that people will want to clip and share. Think "quotable" segments that work as standalone content.
While everyone else is creating one-dimensional content that gets watched once, you could be creating multi-layered content that gets clipped, shared, and rewatched for different reasons.
Stop thinking "How can I make this one great video?" Start thinking "How can I create multiple great moments within one video?"
