Creators think we need to fight AI to protect our creativity, but Disney just proved that the smartest move is to control the narrative instead of getting controlled by it.

So I'm researching Disney's latest moves at 2 AM, right? And I come across this Variety article

Bob Iger, Disney's CEO, says something that completely flipped my perspective:

"The other thing that we’re really excited about that AI is going to give us the ability to do is to provide users at Disney+ with a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user generated content and to consume user generated content, mostly short form from others."

Disney, the company that built an empire on protecting Mickey Mouse... is now encouraging user-generated content?

Here is why I say it's smart: Disney saw regular people making Pixar characters and Disney characters with AI, and instead of suing everyone like we expected, they said "Checkmate. We're going to create the platform for you to do this legally."

According to the Variety report, Disney is planning the "biggest and most significant changes from a product perspective" since Disney+ launched. They're not just adding AI features, they're completely reshaping how people interact with their content.

This made me think of the C.O.N.T.R.O.L. Method

C - Control the Platform
Instead of fighting user-generated content, Disney is creating the official platform for it. They're saying "If you want to create Disney content, do it here where we control the experience."

O - Observe What's Already Working
Disney saw people were already making Disney characters with AI and getting massive engagement. They studied the demand before creating the supply.

N - Navigate Legal Protection
By creating their own platform, Disney protects their IP while giving fans what they want. Smart creators should think about how to protect their brand while embracing AI.

T - Test Audience Reception
Disney is testing how their audience feels about AI integration. As Bob Iger said, they're having "productive conversations" with AI companies to "protect the value of our IP."

R - Retain Creative Control
Disney isn't letting AI run wild. They're creating "a very strict sandbox" where AI can operate within their guidelines.

O - Optimize for Engagement
The goal isn't just content creation...it's creating "a much more engaged experience" that keeps users on their platform longer.

L - Leverage Network Effects
Disney is turning individual creators into a content army that promotes Disney characters while staying within Disney's ecosystem.

I think this is fire however I can see the backlash coming. Disney just showed us that the future belongs to creators who can provide the tools for their audience to create WITH them, not just consume FROM them.

The lesson? How can we equip our audience with AI for a unique experience? It could be:

  • As simple as an AI avatar.
  • AI customer service
  • A unique AI video based off the feedback of your audience.

It can be many things but start brainstorming because Disney is about to turn every fan into a content creator while keeping them in the Disney ecosystem.... and we can take page from that page too

What's you're thoughts or moves based on this?

Use this prompt to recreate this image for yourself and post it (I used Nano Banana):

Person's face attached in the image (Do not change facial features of the person from the uploaded photo. Keep the face of the person 100% accurate from the reference image. Keep the original face of the attached person unchanged and realistic) embossed in profile, crafted with realistic engraved textures and fine relief detailing. The coin surface shows light reflections, scratches, and metallic sheen. Include subtle inscriptions or symbols around the border to resemble authentic minting. Centered on a dark, minimal background to emphasize the coin's texture and realism.
