📰 What's Poppin
I posted a Reel that said we are fully monetized on YouTube May 19, 2024.
And the very first thing out of my mouth in that video was this: "The 1,000 subscribers isn't the hard part. It's the 4,000 watch hours." And I meant that. Subscribers came from people who already knew me. The hours came from strangers deciding to stay.
This past Monday, I'm on the live reading YouTube's new announcement out loud, and my stomach dropped for everyone who's not in yet.
Starting February 1, 2027, new channels need 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days, not 4,000. The Shorts path goes from 10 million qualified views in 90 days to 20 million.
If you already monetized, your grandfather in nothing about the 8,000 applies to you.
But if you are still sitting on some watch hours right now, telling yourself you'll get serious later, I'm gonna need you to keep reading.
Now, if I keep it a hundred, I wasn’t surprised by these changes:
1. These platforms don’t love us. It’s just a business for them.
2. AI made content cheap to make, so they raise the price of admission.
Most are going to look at these changes and think, "I need to post more." That might not be the case for you. You have a little bit over 20 weeks from the day you read this. I want to give you a roadmap that will help you get monetized, regardless of whether you are just starting or you're right there.
🖥️ The 24-Week Watch Hour Roadmap
🔹 Step 1: Find out how far off you actually are. YouTube Studio, Earn tab. It shows you the exact gap. Do not guess. Most people are closer than the story in their head.
🔹 Step 2: Turn the gap into a weekly number. Gap divided by weeks left. If you’re at 1,200 hours, that’s 2,800 to go, which is about 127 hours a week. That’s your one number now. Not views. Not subs.
🔹 Step 3: Build a binge path. Playlists, series, a clear next video. If you’ve made 3 or 4 videos on the same topic, that’s a playlist, and a playlist has its own shareable link. Send that link to your list instead of one video. This is honestly the one I still need to improve on myself.
🔹 Step 4: Repair your dead ends. End screens on every video. When someone finishes, you tell them exactly where to go. If you leave it blank, they go to somebody else’s channel. Small fix, real hours.
🔹 Step 5: Go live if you can stomach it. Lives are how I got there. Long sessions, and the replay counts too, forever, as long as you leave it public. Public. Not unlisted, not members-only. I learned that one the hard way.
🔹 Step 6: Win the click. Some of your videos don’t need new content, they need a new thumbnail and title. If your CTR is under 5, that’s a packaging problem, not a you problem. YouTube is a package game before it’s a content game.
So...what's your actual gap right now? Open Studio and email me the number.

ChatGPT slash commands (the visual ones)
Look at this! I made this image with just one command, not a whole prompt
You type a slash command plus a topic, and ChatGPT hands you back a visual instead of a wall of text. The ones we ran on the live:
🔹 /handwritten [topic] … explains it so simply a kid could follow it
🔹 /make sticky notes [topic] … the key points as sticky notes
🔹 /visualize learning [topic] … a visual breakdown in a couple minutes
🔹 /cheat sheet [topic] … a one-page summary with the key info laid out clean
🔹 /blueprint [topic] … goes deeper, breaks the whole system apart
🔹 /flashcards [topic] … turns anything into study cards, and yes, it read a YouTube video for me
Now here’s the part nobody tells you. These are not official ChatGPT features. They’re prompt shorthand. Which means sometimes you have to train it. My first /visualize learning came back gorgeous and completely off topic because I gave it a link without telling it to pull from the link. I had to say “no, question-led, from the actual page” and run it again. Second one was clean. The flashcards drifted a little too.
Pretty is not the same as correct. Read the output before you post it.
I have the full growing list inside Lions Behavior in the doc section, under the prompt library. If you want the whole thing and you want to actually try it somewhere nobody’s judging your first ugly attempt, come through. We’re all doing it together. lionsbehavior.com
